RJC Winter Sports Season draws to a Close

The Winter Sports season has officially drawn to a close.  As we look forward to the spring season of sports we thank our grade 12 students who provided leadership and helped make our winter sport seasons as successful as they were.

The core of the Wheat Kings girls Midget hockey team consisted of  4 RJC girls.  All the RJC girls have played together since their novice hockey days.  Their season saw a lot of growth as many of their team mates were younger girls from the valley area. The Wheat Kings unfortunately lost early in their round of playoffs to Melfort.

The Wheat Kings Boys Midget team finished their season with a 7-5-4 record.  A loss to Cudworth knocked our boys to the bronze medal game.  It was a heartbreaker as the Wheat Kings pushed the series to three games then lost in overtime.  The bronze medal series also turned into an exciting 3 game series against Dalmeny.  The Wheat Kings lost again in overtime in game one.  Game two was a 5-4 win pushing the series to game 3 on home ice.  Game three saw strong play from both teams.  The game was decided in the second overtime period to have the Wheat Kings win bronze at home 2-1.  An exciting finish to a great season.

The curling season was short but sweet.  The team travelled to Blaine Lake for playoffs.  The team  ended the season with  2 wins and 2 losses.  They finished the season 4th out of eight teams.

The RJC girls basketball team had an excellent season thanks to the leadership of captains Lyndsey and Lauren, and their exceptional coach, Peter Hooge.  The girls finished 3rd in league play behind Warman and Clavet and entered conference playoffs with confidence.  After an easy advancement into regionals, the girls found themselves on a tough road to Hoopla.  The girls lost in an exciting and close game to Langham in the final game of regional playoffs, ending their season with a bang.

The boys basketball team advanced from Conference play by defeating Maymont.  At Regionals, RJC took on the home team of Middle Lake.  The game was fast and exciting and the boys narrowly missed advancing to the next round by just 2 points!  Great job guys!
