Wheat King Provincial Hockey

The Rosthern Midget Wheat Kings are wrapping up a busy schedule of games and tournament play.  The team participated in the SHA Midget "A" Provincial Tournament, playing a two game total point series against the Kerrobert Tigers.  Kerrobert won the first game in Rosthern 5-2 and the Wheat Kings won the rematch in Kerrobert 3-1.  Kerrobert advanced to the next round of playoffs with an overall winning score of 6-5 in the close, well-played series.  The action pictures below are from both of the provincial games.

Sam pins the Kerrobert winger to the boards.

Brenden and Parker fight for possession of the puck immediately following the face off.

Luke calmly passes the puck up the ice as the Kerrobert forward aggressively forechecks.

It takes two Kerrobert players to corral Paul who still manages to kick the puck along the boards.

Jamieson controls the puck along the half-boards and looks to pass to a teammate behind Kerrobert's net.

Jared finishes his check along the boards.

Michael looks to beat the Kerrobert defender to the outside as he attacks the offensive zone.

Tyler looks for a teammate to head man the puck to as the Wheat Kings break out of their own end.

Ryan sets up in front of the Kerrobert net and looks for either a pass or rebound.

Brenden spots Parker heading up the middle of the ice and gets set to pass him the puck.

The Wheat Kings also played in an midget tournament in Melfort Jan. 28-30.  The team lost a close game to the Estevan Midget Bruins.  The game was tied 1-1 at the end of the second period and ended 4-1 in favor of the Bruins.  The Wheat Kings won their other two games, beating the Regina Jets 4-2 and downing Aberdeen 10-1.  The Wheat Kings are also finishing up the regular season in league play.  They defeated Hague 10-1 and play their final two regular season games in Cudworth Feb. 1 and in Warman Feb. 3.
