RJC Winter Sports Season Comes to an End

The Rosthern Midget Wheat Kings finished a successful season competing in the Sask. Valley Minor Hockey League.  The team saved their best games of the season for the end of the year, making it all of the way to the league semi-final before losing to Shellbrook.  Congratulations on your bronze medal winning season.  Special congratulations to graduating play Isaac Harper.

The RJC Girls Basketball program traveled to Wynyard this past week to compete in Regional Playoffs.  Being ranked number 7, We played Friday against  Lashburn. The game was competitive, but the ladies worked hard to stay consistently a few points ahead. The win moved us forward to Saturday's final at noon against the hometown team. The girls worked hard, and while we reached numerous team goals, we were simply outplayed by the number one seed. Coach Isaak was proud of their grit and integrity. Our season may have ended, but our spirit plays on.  Good luck to our grade twelve girls as they move on from this team.  We thank them for their excellent leadership skills as well as their skill on the court!

The RJC boys basketball team competed in regional playoffs at VCA this past weekend.  The team opened the tournament with a convincing win against Minahik Waskahigan with some key shots falling, tenacious defence and elaborate playmaking.  This win put them into the finals against the number 2 ranking host VCA.  The RJC boys came out all guns a blazing, working steadily on offence and making life difficult for VCA both inside the key and troubling their outside shooting.  In the second half however, VCA managed to find some chinks in the RJC armour to work through and turned a halftime deficit into a ten point lead.  Despite a valiant effort, the RJC guys couldn’t pull back the points they had lost, and were defeated by a strong VCA team.  Thanks for all the hard work this year guys, and a big shout out to our graduating grade 12s Carter, Christian, Liam, Nic and Toby.

RJC Winter Sports Teams see Playoff Action!

It's playoff time and the Rosthern Midget Wheat Kings find themselves right in the thick of things.  In round one the Wheat Kings played Shellbrook "A", winning the series in two games.  The second round saw the Wheat Kings face off against the Hague Midget Royals.  Hague was favoured to win, having finished higher than the Wheat Kings in the regular season, but the Rosthern squad saved some of their best hockey for the playoffs and also won their second series in two games.  This placed the team in the league semi-finals against Shellbrook "B" who finished first in conference league play.  The games were close, however Shellbrook took the series winning games 6-5 and 7-5.  The Wheat Kings will now play for bronze against the loser of the other semi-final featuring Prince Albert and Cudworth.

RJC girls basketball traveled to Aberdeen to participate in conference play-offs. We played Saturday morning against the home team and handily won. That win moved the team to the gold medal Saturday afternoon against long-time rivals, Hague. It was a tough, equal match, but after a physical four quarters, RJC managed to pull ahead and stay there until the end. As conference champs, we've been seeded into regional play offs where we will see Lashburn on Friday evening. We'll need to win Friday's game, as well as one on Saturday, in order to move on to Hoopla in Moose Jaw the following weekend. Wish us luck!

The RJC boys basketball team competed at conference playoffs the past weekend. They opened the tournament against Hague, and after a close first quarter, the RJC team pulled away for a convincing win and a spot in the conference finals. In the finals, the guys played Stobart. It was an intense game with lots of back and forth action, but the RJC team gradually pulled away for the win and a gold medal as conference champs. Two wins at regionals secures a position at Hoopla. RJC will take on Minahik Waskahigan at 8:00 on Friday March 11th at VCA.
