Boys Bball Home Opener and First Trimester Report

The RJC boys basketball team hosted Blaine Lake on Monday, Dec. 19 in their home opener.  RJC's stifling brand of zone defense was on full display, while on the offensive end the boys pushed the ball and found open shots all over the floor.  The 91-30 victory lifted the team's record above .500 to 5-4 on the season.  This came after an impressive showing the previous weekend at the SHSAA, "Speak up for Sportsmanship" tournament in Regina, where the boys finished in a tie for first, losing out on the championship plaque by point differential.  RJC defeated Asquith handily in the first round, advancing to the A side bracket, where they lost by 6 to conference rival VCA and then triumphed 52-49 over last year's provincial runner-up, Regina Christian School.  The team will shut things down over the Christmas break and then come back strong in the new year starting with the alumni and home tournaments the first two weekends in January.

Midget Hockey Update

The Rosthern Midget Wheat Kings are continuing to build on their strong start to the season.  They are currently in top spot in their league and remain undefeated.  The team has three more games before the Christmas break.  In addition to league play the team is looking forward to a Midget "A" tournament in Melfort as well as SHA Provincial Playoffs in the new year.

The following pictures are from the Wheat King's most recent home game against Shellbrook.

BJ maintains good position between the onrushing Shellbrook player and his own net.

Jared controls the puck behind the Shellbrook goal as he looks to pass to a teammate in the slot.

Michael fakes left and moves right, beating the defenseman to the outside as he carries the puck into the offensive zone.

Nathan controls the puck on his stick as he prepares to pass up ice to one of his teammates.

Paul patrols the defensive zone for the Wheat Kings as he looks for a chance to either intercept a pass or deliver a thunderous body check.

Ryan wins the scramble for the puck in front of the Shellbrook goal and puts in in the net.

Tyler beats the Shellbrook defenders as he crosses the blue line and looks now to either shoot or pass.

Josh stops the Shellbrook forward from point blank range!

Girls's Bball home opener vs Stobart

It was a tough game against Stobart and it seems as if our team motto this season has become "overtime, everytime." We will be ready for those close games at regionals. Unfortunately we lost this one, but it made for an exciting battle.

Bronze Medal for Boys Volleyball!

The RJC boys volleyball team competed in the 3A provincial high school at the end of November.  The boys traveled to Carnduff in the far South-East corner of the province for the tournament.  After some excitement with the van breaking down at Regina, the boys arrived at the tournament with some fancy new vehicles.  The first game of the tournament was against number 1 seed Kelvington, and the boys played well, taking them to three sets but ultimately dropping the match to the Golden Hawks.  The boys also dropped their second match to Montmartre in a close 3 set affair.  The last game on Friday also went to 3 sets, with the boys winning the decisive third set in a must win situation.  Saturday morning finished off pool play with a 2 set win against Stanley Mission, which saw the boys finish 2nd in their pool.  In the quarterfinals, the guys played Neilburg.  The first set was a nail-biter, but the RJC guys prevailed 29-27.  In the second set, the boys took control and won the match in 2 games.  In the semifinal, the boys played our nemesis from Saskatoon Christian and dropped a close 3 set match, which allowed the guys to play for bronze.  In the bronze medal game, the boys came out strong against Kinistino and built a good lead before Kinistino closed the gap to make it a tight game, although RJC managed to hold on for the win.  In the second set, the guys played strong defense and had timely hitting which allowed them to win the match in two sets and take home the bronze medal.  Congratulations to the guys on their provincial medal and a great season!
